Responsible Gambling

Gambling is entertainment that costs money. For most people it stays that way. For some it does not, and the shift is gradual enough to be easy to miss from the inside.

Warning signs worth taking seriously. Betting more than you decided to. Chasing losses with bigger stakes. Borrowing to play, or playing with money committed to something else. Hiding how much or how often. Feeling you have to keep going to get back to level. Playing to escape stress rather than for enjoyment. Any one of these is worth a pause.

Tools that actually help. Every operator listed on this site offers deposit limits, session reminders, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion. Deposit limits set in advance are the most effective single control because they bind you at the moment you are least inclined to be sensible. Set them when you open the account rather than when you need them.

Free confidential help in the US. The National Problem Gambling Helpline is available 24 hours a day on 1-800-522-4700, and you can also call or text 1-800-GAMBLER. Both are free, confidential and staffed by people who do this all day. Gamblers Anonymous runs in-person and online meetings nationwide.

For families. If someone close to you is affected, Gam-Anon supports families and the national helpline above will talk to you as well as to the person gambling. You do not need their permission to ask for advice.

Blocking software. Gamban, BetBlocker and GamBlock restrict access to gambling sites across your devices. BetBlocker is free. These are more effective than willpower and there is no shame in using one.

Nothing on this site is aimed at anyone under 21, at anyone who has self-excluded, or at anyone gambling with money they cannot afford to lose.
